Hi Everyone!

DJ smiling during his daily postingOur first day in our social networking experiment was a partial failure.

Our application for membership in BlogRush was approved within 8 hours (they say it takes up to 48 hours because of a visual site inspection). Dada spent 5 hours, last night, trying to find a way to make it work for our site. Dada said the problem was the type of written content they were offering. The first offering of content had a “bad word” in the title. This made Dada very concerned so he went into our BlogRush account and tried to “filter” out “bad words” from appearing on our site. It did not help as they continued to appear “time after time.”. The other problem was the type of content that was appearing. It was not related to what we requested as content. Mama had picked the area of “Family -Toddler” and they were not presenting content in that area. Next, Dada changed the content area to “Education - Preschool.” Again, the content was not related. Finally, Dada removed our site from BlogRush and ended the membership.

Dada said, in the end BlogRush is not a place for a site like ours. My parents have said, from the beginning, that DJ’s World will be a place that is safe for children from the ages of 2-10 years old. Allowing “bad words” on our site will not be allowed. Dada said that he rather grow slow than to have unsafe things happening on the site.

Mama did join, on a trial basis, the Mom Blog Network which is a group that has its focus on parenting. We will watch very carefully and see if this group is a good network to belong.

In the end, Dada said social networking on the Internet is a difficult situation. He said the very nature of the Internet allows people to say whatever they want to say. That can be dangerous for children. Dada said that although BlogRush may be very popular; it is NOT a social networking group that is “children friendly.”

We will keep you updated on our continuing goal of keeping DJ’s World a social Internet safe place to visit!

Hi Everyone!

DJ smiling during his daily postingI know that the title of this post has some strange, adult-like words-”Social Networking,” in it but they are easy to understand. Social Networking is simply a way that people can meet people that, hopefully, share the same interests. For those of you that go to school; your schoolmate friends are your “social network.” Now, that is pretty simple, right?

Now, DJ’s World is a new Internet site and we, of course, would like to make as many new friends as possible but there is a problem. The problem is this: my Mama and Dada very much want this place to be really “Internet safe” for all its young visitors. They do not want anything that would be negative to the proper development of children. I will give an example: when I talk about computer or PlayStation 2 games for children, we get a huge bunch of messages and links from on-line gambling websites. Mama and Dada make sure that all these are removed before they could end up on this site. It is, also, one of the reasons why Mama and Dada are, for right now, afraid of allowing advertisements on this site. They just don’t want anything that could hurt or disturb children.

This week, we are trying an experiment in social networking. On the lower right-hand side of our site, you will see (for now) a blank box with the title “BlogRush.” We joined today to see if it will help in bringing new vistors to our site. We will try it for a few days and see if it will work within the rules that Mama and Dada has set for this site. Because this is a test, we only ask that you let your parents ONLY “click” on the links in the box. They are always the best judge as to what they want you to see. Trust them only.

We will keep you posted on this new test of social networking. Once we get it going, we will, most likely, put up a survey to see what your feelings are about it.

In the end, I know that Mama and Dada will do what is best and proper. See you later!
