Hi Everyone!

picture of DJ smiling during his daily postingYesterday morning, Mama gave me a big surprise. She woke me up early and told me that she was taking me to shop in the Subic Freeport. Wow! I was ready to go in 5 minutes.

Even though it was really raining hard, we had a good time driving to the Freeport. First on our list was a stop at Jollibee for a late breakfast. Actually, it was lunch for me as I had all my favorites: Burgersteak with French Fries plus some of Mama’s Fried Chicken and Rice. I finished that with a nice glass of Coca Cola. Now, that was a great meal!

We then headed to the National Book Store so that Mama could buy some school supplies for my brother and sisters. Mama brought me some new crayons so I can color pictures at home. Next, we went to the Royal Duty Free Store to do some serious shopping. Mama was shopping for many things such as food items, cleaning supplies, and other household things. I made sure that Mama got the important things like popcorn, fruit cocktail, canned tuna, and, of course, some candy. I found out that it is a lot of work to shop in the stores. I helped Mama to push the shopping cart.

After that, we headed to the Freeport Exchange as Mama needed to get some more items that wasn’t at Royal Duty Free. She got light bulbs, breakfast cereal and other things. I, of course, loaded up on Mentos so I would have a goos supply  all month. What was really nice was Mama brought me some toys because she said I was such a good boy. Thank you Mama!

After all the shopping, I was really tired so Mama and I headed home. It was a really great day and I had a wonderful time spending the day shopping with Mama!

Do you like shopping with your Mama?

Thanks for your visit.

Hi Everyone!

DJ smiling during his daily postingSorry that I have been away for a few days but Mama didn’t feel that well and we, all, just rested over the weekend. I hope that you had a great weekend and did fun things with your family.

Mama said that she is taking me to Jollibee because I was a good boy over the weekend. I love going to Jollibee to eat as it has some of my favorite foods.

Mama said that there may be many of our vistors who don’t know about Jollibee. She said that we should do some research on the history of Jollibee so that our friends will know about it.

picture of a typical jollibee restaurant

Jollibee founder Tony Tan Caktiong and his family opened a Magnolia Ice Cream parlor at Cubao in 1975 with Jolibe as the original name. Sometime in 1978, Tony Tan and his brothers and sisters, being partners, engaged the services of a management consultant in the person of Manuel C. Lumba. Consultant Lumba shifted the business focus from ice cream to hamburgers, after his studies showed that a much larger market was waiting to be exploited. Lumba became Tony Tan’s first business and management mentor. Lumba next re-formed the name Jolibe to Jolly Bee and made the two words form a single name Jollibee, but changed the “y” to an “i”. The Jollibee mascot was conceptualized by Lumba inspired by local and foreign children’s books. Lumba next created the product name “Yumburger” as well as the name “Chickenjoy”. He had the company incorporated in order to benefit from incorporation and leased a house on Main St. in Cubao, Quezon City as the first headquarters. Lumba also formulated a long-term marketing strategy, listing up a number of consumer promotions and traffic building schemes. Tony Tan stressed that developing internal strengths was critical. The stores were re-designed, the service transformed into a full self-service, fast-food operation with drive thrus. Not long after, Tony Tan and Manny Lumba went on an observation tour in the United States, attended food service and equipment conventions. Tony Tan placed Manny Lumba in charge of franchise development.

picture of jollibee mascot Since McDonald’s hadn’t yet entered into the Philippines, Tony capitalized on this fact by establishing his brand among the Filipino people. Instead of trying to learn everything from scratch, Tony traveled to the United States to learn the tricks of the trade from the already established chains such as McDonalds. By implementing these tried and true business practices back in the Phlippines, Tony’s hard work began to pay off when his business began to rapidly expand. The division of Jollibee Philippines really tries to serve the specific needs of the Filipino people and its culture by focusing its product development as well as its marketing and advertsing to target the unique and traditional Filipino family.

Today Tony Tan Caktiong serves as a success story and a role model for entreprenuers around the world. This was solified in 2004 when Tony was voted the Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young. The chairman of Ernst and Young, James S. Turley said, “These awards are about celebrating global entrepreneurship and the desire to continually innovate and expand. Tony’s story is a truly inspirational one, on both these counts. We are delighted he has been selected to receive this year’s award.”

As of December 2007, Jollibee has become one of the biggest fast-food chains in the world with 1,655 stores worldwide and total sales of more than $1 billion. As of March, 2008, JFC has 1,464 stores in the Philippines namely, Jollibee (627), Chowking (377), Greenwich Pizza (236), Red Ribbon Bakeshop (194), Délifrance (28) and Tio Pepe (2). It had 191 stores overseas located in the United States of Amercia (California,Nevada, and New York), U.S. Territories, Brunei, Hong Kong SAR and Vietnam.

To the filipino people, Jollibee is a special place to eat because it makes the meals to the Filipino taste. Myself, I love the burgersteak with gravy and rice plus the fried chicken (Chicken Joy) and their very long and tasty french fries!

For those of our friends in the United States, when you are in California, Nevada or New York, why not forgo your usual trip to McDonalds and make a trip to try Jollibee for your family meal. You will not regret it!

Here is a video below showing the Jollibee song. Have your parents play it for you:

 See you tomorrow!

Camp John Hay Manor

Hi Everyone!

DJ smiling during his daily posting.I woke up early this morning. I had a good sleep and when I opened my eyes, the sun was shining and the air was very cool. It was different not sleeping with the air conditioner on all night. The air smelled different. Mama said that the smell was from all the pine trees and fresh air. I don’t know what it is but I like it.

We are staying at the John Hay Manor. It is a really nice place that is made out of wood logs. Mama said that all the logs were brought here from the United States and Canada.

A view of Camp John Hay Manor in Baguio City

Dada said that Camp John Hay used to be the rest and recreational facility for members of the military and employees of the Department of Defense of the United States. He said that this 690-hectare property was turned over to the Philippine government in July 1, 1991.

Dada said Camp John Hay was named after U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt’s secretary of war and was used by the Japanese as a prisoner camp for American and British soldiers during World War II. He said its name was changed to Club John Hay after it was turned over to the Philippine government and  for the first time in its history the facility was open to the public in 1991 and converted into a recreational complex. It used to be off-limits to Filipinos, except for the privileged few who could get entry passes from its former American administrators.

There is a lot of new houses here and there is a really nice golf course. I want to learn to play golf when I grow up a little bit more. I hope that Dada will teach me. We spent most of the morning walking around Camp John Hay enjoying the pine trees. We went to a special place where they have so many butterflies in so many colors. It was really nice to see so many different colors…just like a rainbow of butterflies. You know how much I love rainbows!

The pink colour Baguio Cathedral

After our walk, we took a van to town to go to the Baguio Cathedral. Every time that Mama and Dada come to Baguio City, they go,first, to Baguio Cathedral to pray and thank God for all their blessings. Mama says the rose-colored Baguio Catholic Cathedral, located on top of a hill in the heart of the city, is one of the more familiar and most visited landmarks of Baguio. she said this beautiful building has twin spires and is one of the most photographed buildings in the city. The construction of the cathedral by phases was begun on a hill which was originally referred to as “Kampo” by the native Ibalois. It was later called Mount Mary by a Belgian Catholic Mission headed by Fr. Carlu, CICM, who was then the parish priest. The cathedral was finally consecrated in 1936 and dedicated to Our Lady of Atonement. During World War II it became an evacuation center and withstood the Japanese bombing of the city in 1945, thereby saving thousands of lives. The Baguio Cathedral is the biggest catholic church in Baguio and is the center of religious activities such as during the Holy Week when thousands of devotees from Metro Manila and the provinces come up to the city.

After we prayed at church, we decided to go visit the SM Mall. It is a new modern addition to Baguio City and a fun place to visit. We walked all through the mall and had a good time. We had a late lunch at Jollibee and I had my favorite foods.

After that we went back to Camp John Hay where I went to the skating rink and watched the people roller skating. I am a little too young to skate. I went and played on the playground. I like the swings and the gym bars.

Tomorrow, Mama said that we are going to a park where I can ride on a boat and we are going to another park where I will ride my first ever horse. I can’t wait for tomorrow!
