Yesterday, I was able to watch the new movie Wall-E.
The movie starts in the future, where humans have trashed Earth to the point it’s uninhabitable. With no means to sustain themselves - plants have all died or are buried under garbage and humans have fled in spaceships where they live their lives and are serviced by robots.
Back on Earth, WALL-E (short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) goes about his daily, lonely job of compacting trash. It’s what he was built for and programmed to do, and there’s no reason for him to stop. He was inadvertently left turned on when everyone took off, so he goes about his work each and every day with only a cockroach named Hal as a friend. WALL-E has developed a personality over the hundreds of years alone. He collects items of trash that he then uses to furnish and decorate his home. He’s also developed an affection for the old movie Hello, Dolly! and watches the old VHS tape over and over again.
Hello, Dolly! has taught WALL-E about holding hands and falling in love, and the lonesome robot has dreams of finding that someone special. After endless years of waiting, WALL-E’s shot at love appears in the form of a glistening egg-shaped drone named EVE. EVE was sent to Earth to check for any signs of life, and WALL-E falls in love for this state-of-the-art metallic cutie. He wants nothing more than to make a connection with this beauty, but EVE’s not on the same wavelength. Fortunately, WALL-E does not give up and when EVE’s sent back to report her findings to the people on board the Axiom spaceship, WALL-E goes along for the ride. Nothing will Wall-E from being with his new love EVE, not hundreds of thousands of miles of space travel, evil robots, or people who’ve lost all concept of what life on Earth was like before their ancestors all but destroyed our planet.
There is the message being taught about protecting our environment and not being so reliant on technology to do our everyday things. What is really neat is there are very few spoken words as WALL-E relies on the movements of a trash compactor wearing binoculars to convey emotions and move forward the story.Within 5 minutes WALL-E is no longer a mere robot but a real creature who feels things as deeply as humans.
Wall-E is really a great movie that I know I will watch many times. It is a great movie for children of all ages right up to 90+ years old!
These days, no one can avoid the news about the coming election in the United States of America. Everywhere on television, radio, newspapers and, of course, the Internet; the news is about the on-going “battle” between John McCain and Barak Obama. I asked Mama about these men and how they will become president of their country.
Mama said that Senator McCain is an older man who was a war hero in the Vietnam Conflict and has been a U.S. Senator for 30 years. Barak Obama is a young, less experienced U.S. Senator who has many new and inspirational ideas on how to make America a better and more kinder country. The people of the United States will vote in November on which one will be President of the United States of America.
Now, many people say that they could do a better job as president than these two candidates and that got me thinking…could I do the job? I ask my local play friends and they said that I would be a good president. I would do away with all wars. Countries would have to settle their differences by playing video games against one another instead of fighting wars where people get killed or injured. We would protect the environment and would protect all animals. Everybody would be allowed a good education and would always have enough to eat. Come to think of it, it is not hard to be a president.
My friends want me to run for president and have started my campaign in the United States:
WOW! I didn’t think that it would go this far so fast. Mama said I could be president but I would have to go to school everyday and to be in bed by 9pm each night. Oh, she said no parties and no work on Sunday. I told Mama maybe it is better that I wait for a few years!
Today, I had a conversation with my friend Georgie at “Being Five.” Being Five is a very popular comic strip that follows the life of a five year old boy by the name of Georgie. Georgie, like myself, uses voice recognition software to post on his blog. You can visit Georgie at http://www.beingfive.com each day. When you visit, you can sign up to have his daily post sent to your email address.
I was thinking…if I was to send a big piece of cheese to Georgie’s friend “Mouse”, do you think he would let Georgie answer my questions? Mice never turn down cheese, right?
When you visit Georgie, tell him that Dj at DJ’s World sent you. Have fun!
